Lovely day for a run/walk

Participated in the Relay-for-heat organized by the Wilkes University Running Club and in coordination with the Commission on Economic Opportunities. It was a beautiful sunny day in the upper 40's (~10C).  The only problem is that the course was terrible. 

I probably did 1 km of running if that. The rest of it was slipping around. Other than a doing something for a good cause, and getting off my butt, the highlights were the birds. They are a House Sparrow (defending a box - seems very early for this), a Dark-eyed Junco, a Black-capped Chickadee grabbing a spruce seed, and a Song Sparrow. 

Chilly Song Sparrow

Plymouth, PA is an old coal mining town that has great potential to be a hip town. When the levee along the Susquehanna River ends is an area called Plymouth Flats. This is a great birding spot with wide open corn fields and brushy edges filled with sparrows. I went out to see one of the zillion snowy owls that have descended upon the East Coast. Didn't turn up any. But I did happen to run into a flock of Tree Sparrows and this very chilly Song Sparrow. I should also note there was a garbage pile burning and some dude and his girlfriend were enjoying the outdoors.
