"We found on St. Paul's only two kinds of birds- the booby and the noddy. The former is a species of gannet, and the latter a tern. Both are of a tame and stupid disposition, and are so unaccustomed to visitors, that I could have killed any number of them with my geological hammer" -Charles Darwin, Voyage of the Beagle
St. Paul Island is one of 15 very small islands near the Equator and owned by Brazil. Darwin, for the first time, has nearly crossed the Atlantic. The ship lands on St. Paul's Island on February 16, 1832. He is building his collection of invertebrates and vertebrates, as well as geological samples.
Here is a picture of a noddy , taken from Wikipedia.
