My Year of Darwin 3/10/2014: Ubiquity of Life

 Charles Darwin

"Well may we affirm that every part of the world is habitable! Whether lakes of brine, or those subterranean ones hidden beneath volcanic mountains-warm mineral springs-the wide expanse and depths of the ocean-the upper regions of the atmosphere, and even the surface of perpetual snow-all support organic beings."  Charles Darwin, Voyage of the Beagle

How right Darwin was.

Warm temperatures and increasing daylength are causing birds' testicles to grow and with this growth comes more testosterone and with more testosterone comes more singing. Lately I've been hearing cardinals, song sparrows, house finches, mourning doves and both species of crows are being fiesty (saw one pull a perfect slice of bread out of an old nest).

Book chapter finally rolling out nicely. Feels good. Of course all my coursework has been left undone. So it goes.
